Automated Management and Replenishment of Pharmacy Medication Kits and Trays

August 29, 2016

The Kit and Tray Management System from Intelliguard RFID and Impinj automates and validates the process of medication replenishment, enabling staff pharmacists and technicians to manage kits and trays more efficiently while reducing costs. Medication is identified by Intelliguard Smart Tags with embedded Impinj RAIN RFID chips. Impinj Speedway readers are installed in the Intelliguard
workstation to automatically inventory items when they are returned to the pharmacy for replenishment after clinical use. Each item is tracked individually and these tags can be read through multiple layers and overlapping stacks, making this solution ideal for tightly-packed trays.

The small tag form factor is designed specifically for medications to reduce bulk and ensure items don’t get stuck in the tray. When a tray is returned to the pharmacy for refilling, the Intelliguard Kit and Tray System reads all product inventory and compares against the tray’s specific inventory needs. Missing, expired or soon-to-be expired medications are identified and a replenishment list is
generated, saving time and reducing restocking errors and waste.
